What's the benefits of cavity wall insulation ?
Not only is effective cavity wall insulation good for your home, it is good for your pocket and good for the environment.
Installing cavity wall insulation is probably the most effective energy saving step you can take. After all, 6 million home owners can’t be wrong!

What is cavity wall insulation ?
Most homes built since the 1920’s have cavity walls, i.e. an inner and an outer ‘skin’ with a gap between them. Filling this gap with insulation material improved the retention of heat on the inside of the property.Methods to insulate your cavity walls:

Polystyrene beads are completely waterproof, so even if they do get wet, they will dry out without any lasting damage or adverse affect on your insulation.
Is my property suitable for cavity wall insulation ?
If your property was built after the 1920’s, you almost certainly have cavity walls. Older houses are more likely to have solid walls.
Your home will usually be suitable for cavity wall insulation if it meets these criteria:
-Its external walls are unfilled cavity walls.
-Your cavity is at least 50mm wide.
-The masonry or brickwork of your property is in good condition.
-It is more than 10 years old (most newer houses will have insulation already).
-The walls are not exposed to driving rain.

The benefits of correctly fitted boarding
It is estimated that over 60% of us use our lofts for storage.
While this is a convenient way to hide all those suitcases and other items, it can also damage your loft insulation. When compressed, mineral wool insulation becomes much less effective.
Simply boarding over your insulation can have a similar effect if you are using the currently recommended depth of 270mm insulation, as most joists are only 100mm deep.
We specialise in fitting raised boarding, up to a depth of 300mm, to ensure that your insulation material has maximum effect while your boarding provides the ease of access and storage that you need for everyday use.
Once we have insulated your loft as instructed, any finishing off work such as boarding, walkways or storage units are completed to your satisfaction.
You can then sit back and relax in the knowledge that your loft is now properly insulated and plan on what to do with the savings you will make.

How cavity wall insulation is installed ?
You’ll need a registered installer to fit cavity wall insulation – it’s not a job you can do yourself.
The insulation material is injected through small holes drilled in the exterior brickwork. Once the installation is complete we make good all brickwork, blending in the installation work to retain the look of your property.
Cavity walls are filled with an insulating material; commonly-used materials include mineral wool, polystyrene beads or foam. Insulating cavity walls will help trap heat and prevent warmth from escaping.
A typical installation usually takes less than half a day.
How much does cavity wall insulation cost ?
The average cost of cavity wall insulation can be difficult to determine.

The Four most common types of cavity wall insulation used are:

Understanding Cavity Wall Insulation Problems
Cavity wall insulation problems are currently now a main focus of conversation when buying o property as well as both in the Law courts and the Mortgage providers in the UK as due to the thousands of poorly and incorrectly insulated cavity wall spaces throughout the UK many homes are now sadly un mortgageable and riddled with damp and high Humidity.
Apart from the two main issues I have just highlighted above I will explain some of the most common issues relating to failed cavity insulation.
Damp penetration – The most common problems with cavity wall insulation tend to be related to moisture penetration across the cavity which can lead to damp penetrating the internal walls of your property and also damp can penetrate externally through the property wall and is most common in Rendered properties and can remain unnoticed and hidden for many years. I have seen some shocking states of brickwork and mortar hidden behind render over the years in some extreme cases ( Not uncommon may I add) it has been only the Render holding the front of the house up as the majority of the bricks had perished and the mortar just turned to dust.
